“Springfest” is the name given to a series of island events in March and April, which draw visitors from all over the southeast. It was designed by the Hilton Head hospitality industry to breathe some life into what some consider an off-season time of year. This year Springfest begins with the premiere event, “Winefest”. This event draws thousands of wine lovers from all over and is well known as one of the largest wine events on the east coast. Hundreds of vendors bring their wines and champagnes to be judged by a panel of experts and then tasted by the public. The event is held at Shelter Cove Community Park overlooking the marshes of Broad Creek. A $30 per person fee provides the visitor with three hours of wine education accompanied by music, food and great community atmosphere as well as a souvenir wine glass. The New Heron Point Golf Course

November 9th, 2007

Heron Point Golf Course, Hilton Head, South Carolina, GolfI had the great pleasure of playing in the Grand Opening tournament at Heron Point Golf Course (formerly Sea Marsh) in Sea Pines Plantation.

This course has recently been completely renovated by renowned golf course architect, Pete Dye, who also designed Harbour Town Golf Course. A gentleman I met last week had just played the course and described it to me as “spectacular”. I couldn’t agree more.

The course played a little long for me, but for longer hitters it shouldn’t be too bad. The fairways are visually stunning, with lots of bunkers and mounds making for some very interesting lies. The greens are relatively small, hard and fast but very true. Every hole offered something unique and special, whether it be a lagoon or strategically placed fairway bunkers or large traps guarding the green, something caught your eye.

The staff at Heron Point was extremely good and the whole event proved to be a delightful experience for me and I’m sure for all involved also. All in all, this would have to be considered a must play for anyone visiting Hilton Head.

Hilton Head Island has gone to the Dogs

November 8th, 2007

HIlton Head Beach Muddy in waterOn Hilton Head Island, the off season is much more pet friendly than the “in” season when it comes to beach fun. Not only does Hilton Head Rentals & Golf have a number of pet friendly properties available year round, but it seems that the rest of the town follows suit when the height of the tourist season slows down. Between September 30th and April 1st (meaning, right now!), the town of Hilton Head will permit you and your dog to enjoy all twelve miles of island beaches together – no leash required. The leash laws return between April and Memorial Day. Read the rest of this entry »
