Autumn is one of the best times to visit Hilton Head Island. Nearly all of the seasonal establishments are still open for business, the bulk of the crowds are gone and the tell-tale summer traffic is to a minimum. A cool day may show up on occasion, with thermostats reading in the high 60’s. But, for the most part, warm temperatures linger on and off with the promise of days at the beach and nights at the pool. The occasional cool ocean breeze presents itself on some fall evenings and the lessening humidity eliminates those pesky bad hair nights when you want to paint the island red. When the urge hits you to shed the beach clothes and head somewhere posh, check out some of Hilton Head Rentals and Golf’s favorites. For the best flavored martinis on the island, check out the ever swanky Metropolitan Lounge in Park Plaza.  For ambiance that won’t quit, head to Spice in the Village at Wexford – its Europe meets LA at the beach. Thursday is ladies night and you can snag one of the best concoctions on the island for a steal. Spice is worth the trip if only to check out the incredible red-lit décor –metal and stone mixes with satin and silk. If you’re traveling in a pack, look no further than the “Barmuda Triangle”, a collection of restaurants and watering holes a hop skip and a jump from Park Plaza. At the triangle, there really is something for everyone. One such establishment just off the courtyard is The Lodge, which boasts billiards, specialty martinis ($3 on Tuesdays) and a walk-in humidor for the cigar enthusiast. An outdoor fireplace dots the courtyard landscape. A great meeting place for martinis and microbrews alike. If you get there early enough, dinner at One Hot Mama’s (just across from the Lodge) is a treat you can afford.
