Of the many festivals and special events that Hilton Head Island has to offer, few promise to be as nationally acclaimed as the upcoming 6th Annual Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival. The event takes place at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn and the opening festivities are set for Saturday November 3rd at 9:00am. French for ‘Parade of excellence”, the Concours d’Elegance was born in Paris in the early 1900’s. First introduced to the American public in 1950 in Pebble Beach, the Concours name has grown to be synonymous with sophistication and class. Although dozens of shows have adopted the Concours name, only a select few are recognized or taken seriously in the industry. Over the past five years, The Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival and has become one of those select few and has made a name for itself among the motoring elite. It has been reported that the Hilton Head Concours’ Best In Show is considered by insiders to be one of the top four prestigious awards in the nation. The event will take place throughout the entire weekend and actually begins on Friday with a number of very posh invitation-only events. This year, the Concours boasts the “2007 Quest For Speed & Style” – a celebration and showcase of stock and race car. As part of this special event, antique ambulances and fire trucks will also be on hand. For the first time this year, this event will also showcase a collection of vintage motorcycles. The Concours will also highlight the esteemed American automotive manufacturer Cadillac/LaSalle. The winners, including Best In Show, will be announced Sunday afternoon. Tickets are available at the gate for $20 (Saturday), $30 (Sunday) or $40 (both days). Children 12 and under will be admitted for free. Ages 12-18 and military personnel will be admitted for ½ price.
