Marley’s Island Grille, Park Plaza, Hilton Head

Sunday, February 25th, 2007

If you’re looking for a relaxing dinner with your family, you will want to head to Marleys Island Grille, located on Hilton Head Island in Park Plaza just outside of the Sea Pines gate.

When you walk in you feel like you have slipped away to a
Caribbean Island. From the frozen Mango-lada to their crab and artichoke dip to their yummy Rasta Chicken Pasta, I always leave with a smile on my face.

I have never had a problem with service here. Dinner is a little pricey but well worth it in my book. I would have to say this is my FAVORITE restaurant on Hilton Head. Also if you have a sweet tooth, they also offer Marleys Ice Cream shop attached to the restaurant.

So if your looking for a great meal and a great time head to Marleys Grille, you won’t be disappointed!!!

Sea Grass Grille

Thursday, January 11th, 2007

One of my absolute favorite Hilton Head Island restaurants is the Sea Grass Grille, tucked away in Plantation Center, just outside the gates of Palmetto Dunes. Don’t go there if you’re looking for a view. But if it’s great food and service you’re after, you will walk away happy every time.

No matter what you choose, from the menu or the specials, expect your meal to be expertly prepared and beautifully presented. I’ve tried almost everything on the menu, and there is nothing I wouldn’t order again. Although I’m partial to seafood, and I particularly like the scallops from the menu and the flounder (when they have it), I have to say, they have the best steak in town—a fork-tender filet dripping with gorgonzola butter.

Because there are several restaurants in the vicinity, parking is a bit of a problem; but during the busy season, there is usually a valet—definitely worth a buck or two.

The atmosphere is pleasant, but not fussy; call it vacation-casual with a touch of class. The chef is one of the owners as are two of the regular servers. They truly care about their customers, and it shows.

Sage Room

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

If you ask the locals about Hilton Head Island restaurants, one that consistently comes up is the Sage Room. Obscurely located, on the back side of Heritage Plaza off Pope Avenue, it’s no secret anymore. You’ll need to make reservations in advance.

If you have a small party (2 or 3), consider reserving a spot at the chef’s table—basically a long bar overlooking the food preparation area. The entertainment value of watching these expert chef’s turn out one beautiful plate after another rivals anything you’ve seen on Food TV.

The menu features a nice balance of seafood, steaks and pork. The snow pea martini is an interesting appetizer (alcohol free but served in a martini glass). Two of my favorite entrees are the coconut-crusted mahi-mahi—just the right blend of spicy and sweet—and the roasted pork tenderloin, served with a blue cheese and rosemary cabbage. What makes this restaurant so unique is the creativity of chef/owner Matt Jording and his skilled staff. The specials are always worth strong consideration.

If you don’t see what you like, just ask. The chefs are super friendly and enjoy
interacting with customers. They don’t mind thinking outside the box, or in this case, the menu. Can’t decide? Ask about a tasting which will include a customized sampling of your own design.

Santa Fe Café

Tuesday, January 9th, 2007

I recently had the opportunity to stop by the Santa Fe Café. What an incredibly hidden treasure this was. I went ahead and ordered the lunch quesadilla special with the Santa Fe salad and the painted dessert soup.

What is the painted dessert soup you ask? It is a corn and red pepper soups with an Ancho Chile cream sauce. They take the combination of the corn and red pepper soup and make it into a ying yang sign that when turned sideways makes a red sky and a golden dessert. Then to top it off they drizzle a little sour cream in the form of a cactus and garnish with some cilantro. Not only does it look amazing but also it tastes absolutely delicious.

They also have an upstairs “Cantina” which is the roof top bar. With heaters around the bar and the tables it makes for a wonderful night of drinking and socializing while staying warm but also being able to sit back and just take a look at the stars in front of the roof top fireplace.

I give Santa Fe Café two thumbs all the way up to the cantina.

What’s Open on Hilton Head? It’s 2 AM and I am hungry!!

Monday, January 8th, 2007

Ever wonder what is open at 2 AM on Hilton Head, when you are hungry?

Even though there are 275 + restaurants on Hilton Head, only two stay open 24 hours. Hilton Head Diner is located mid island on Rt. 278 with an upscale diner feel.

Also you can choose from the Huddle House on the north end on Northridge Dr. off Rt. 278. If you’rer not on a strict diet or worried about your weight and looking for something simple and greasy, this is the place for you.

But if your not looking to go out, then Walgreens on Palmetto Bay Road is the choice for you. They offer pizza’s, soups and your basic grocery needs.
