Shark Fishing in the fall

Thursday, November 30th, 2006

brandy shark 2.jpg Fishing is one of the activities that one can to do here on Hilton Head year round. Shark fishing is very popular but can only be done for about 3/4 of the year.

You can fish from the pier at the entrance to Hilton Head or you can   also choose from the fishing charters found in any of the marinas here on Hilton Head Island.

Charter boats do their shark fishing in the summer during the hours of 4PM to 8PM. Sharks thrive on the warmer water and feed in the early evening, so shark fishing is fun and easy for almost any family member.

I was recently out fishing from the pier with a friend and we caught several Black
Tips in a matter of a couple of hours. These were small but larger sharks are plentiful during the summer. Although,  as you can see by the pictures it was bloody, every shark that we caught we released back into the waters so that everyone could enjoy.

Dog Park at Chaplin Park on Hilton Head

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Fido need some fresh air, but not the beach type? Located in Chaplin Park
at the corner of Singleton Beach Road and Rt. 278 is Hilton Head’s only
Dog Park. There are two areas fenced off for your four-legged family member.
The smaller area is for your pint sized pet and of course a larger area for
all the rest.

Both areas have working water fountains for you and your pet.
Park benches are placed all throughout the area. Well treed areas provide shade
for you and Fido during the hot summer days. Forget their favorite ball? Don’t fret,
many tennis balls have been donated by the tennis players.

Hours are from sun up to sun down.

Putt-Putt Courses on Hilton Head Island

Monday, November 27th, 2006

Looking for a fun family time? How about some putt-putt also known as miniature golf? Hilton Head Island offers four separate putt putt locations with all different skill levels. The newest are at Adventure Cove which offers two 18-hole courses with waterfalls
and lagoons. Adventure Cove is located on Folly field Road off Rt.278 which is
mid-island.

Next is Pirates Island Golf (my personal favorite) which also offers two 18-hole courses.
Pirates Island offers an easier course or a more changelling course for all you
golfers. Pirates Island is next to the Hilton Head Diner on Rt. 278.

legendary golf sm.jpg has two locations. One is next to the Freshmarket Plaza on Rt 278
between Palmetto Dunes and Shipyard Plantations. This location offers two courses.
The second Legendary Golf course is located on Pope Avenue (next to Circle Center)
which only offers one course.

Spend some quality time with your family while on Hilton Head enjoying this popular
activity.

Stack’s Pancakes

Saturday, November 25th, 2006

Stacks Pancake Restaurant is located on Rte. 278 just after the Hilton Head Diner near the Red Roof Inn. All their breakfasts are made with 3 eggs. They have great Eggs Benedict.

On Saturday and Sunday mornings they have a very nice buffet. The
space is large and open and they have seating in a glass enclosed porch area which is really nice on a sunny morning.

The staff is friendly and helpful. They also serve lunch but not dinner. All in all, Stacks is a place I enjoy and I think most people would enjoy also.

Dove Street Christmas Lights

Thursday, November 23rd, 2006

A December visit to Hilton Head Island would not be complete without taking
in the spectacular display of lights on Dove Street in North Forest Beach.
You’ll see lights strung on houses, in palm trees and everywhere you can
imagine, with inflatable reindeer, snowmen, santas and elves adding to the
festive atmosphere.

Elvis makes an appearance every year, and there’s even a real Santa along
the way. You may be surprised to be asked to give a donation to Deep Well Project. Don’t worry. It’s legitimate. These folks have been doing this for years,
helping bring joy to the community while giving back to those who are less
fortunate.
