Golden Bear at Indigo Run, Hilton Head Island

Friday, April 20th, 2007

Another beautiful day on Hilton Head Island.  We arrived at Golden Bear for our 10:00 tee time and had no delays.  Again we found the staff very courteous and helpful.  I must say that I either had an excellent game or this course was one of the shortest I have played.

Rarely do I par more then the par 3’s, but yesterday I parred a couple of par 4’s and a couple of par 5’s, so it leads me to believe that the yardage was shorter than most. The greens were in great shape yet very difficult to read.  If I thought the ball would go straight, it broke, and if I thought it broke, it would be straight!!

I also noticed that a lot of the white tee’s were right next to the forward tee’s, so not much of an advantage for anyone playing the whites, I may have even beaten the Par King if he was able to play yesterday.

So the long and short of it is, I enjoyed the course and found it short for the long hitter from the forward tee’s, but I was happy with making par on a few of the holes.

Call Mark at 1-888-445-8664 to include this course in a Golf Package.

Canoeing/Kayaking on Hilton Head Island

Monday, February 12th, 2007

For a unique water experience on Hilton Head Island, think about canoeing or kayaking at Palmetto Dunes . Ambling through the plantation is an 11-mile lagoon system, perfect for beginners and experienced paddlers alike. You’ll get a different perspective on some beautiful homes and golf courses and enjoy the natural beauty of the environment. It’s not unusual to see egrets, herons and diving pelicans. If you see a gator basking in the sun on the bank, leave him alone and he’ll leave you alone.

Never feed or harass a gator! For a more adventurous experience, consider a guided kayak tour with Outside Hilton Head . A variety of marsh/creek tours are offered, including dolphin tours and fishing outings, allowing you to get up-close-and personal with nature. No experience is necessary. They’ll teach you everything you need to know. But be aware that both canoeing and kayaking take some physical exertion. If you just want to sit back and enjoy the ride, you might prefer  charter boat.

March Activities - Hilton Head Hospitality Association

Wednesday, January 10th, 2007

hhi hospcrop.jpgThe month of March is one of the best times to visit Hilton Head Island. While it’s usually still a bit chilly for ocean activities, the island goes into full swing with numerous events and activities, including concerts, plays, art shows, sporting events, food fairs, a nationally-renowned wine festival, St. Patrick’s Day festivities and other events—all a part of our annual SpringFest. With discounted lodging rates and slimmer crowds than in summer, it’s a great time to get to know the island and be a part of the local culture. For a complete list of SpringFest events and activities as well as year-round event information, visit the Hilton Head Hospitality Association.

A word to the wise: Bring your shorts and flip-flops, but pack some long pants and a jacket, too. March on the coast can be a lion or a lamb, and
temperatures can take a dip at night.
