Beach Re-Nourishment moving Along
Hilton Head Island’s most popular playground is getting a makeover. The 2006 beach renourishment project is underway and should be complete by spring. From a local standpoint, this project is both exciting and necessary to keep our beaches in pristine condition. If you’re coming to visit this winter, you’ll be fascinated by the process, although you might
find your favorite spot in the sand temporarily cordoned off.
The dredging is moving along swiftly, though, so no one area is affected for more than a few days. Just so you’re not disappointed in your accommodations, ask your rental company to help you select a property that best suits your needs, based on the most up-to-date location of the dredging equipment.
The process entails placement of approximately 85,000 cubic feet of sand on the beach, for a bigger, better more beautiful place in the sun. Read more about it at www.hiltonheadislandsc.gov. Be sure to visit this spring or summer to see and enjoy the end result.
Currently they are offshore opposite the Crowne Plaza Resort in Shipyard Plantation.
