It’s not too early to start making plans for spring events on Hilton Head Island.

The Verizon Heritage of Golf, a PGA event, is slated for April 9-15, 2007. Combined with the Easter holiday, expect a crowd clamoring for accommodations. If you’re really smart, you’ll make restaurant reservations in advance, too. You don’t have to be a golfer or a golf enthusiast to enjoy the tournament. Just to take in the gorgeous surroundings of the Heritage Golf Course in Sea Pines is worth the price of admission, not to mention the people-watching.

If you get tired of golf, you can always veer off course and wander about Harbour Town where you’ll find all sorts of unique shops and plenty of good eats and drinks.

Be aware that the weather can be a bit unpredictable in the spring. I have been to Heritage in a sweater, with an umbrella, and in shorts and flip-flops—all in the same week! Come prepared for every possibility. I also advise you to pack sunscreen and bug repellent. The no-see-ums can be brutal, and the sun can be deceivingly dangerous on a balmy day on the golf course.
