It’s Turkey Season on Hilton Head Island

Saturday, November 17th, 2007

If your biggest wish this November is to create lasting memories with the entire family, then a Hilton Head Thanksgiving is tailor made for you. Not only does Hilton Head Rentals and Golf have properties sized to accommodate any family, but the island offers so many options you might find yourself having two or three Turkey dinners this year! A ton of island restaurants are offering multiple seatings for the big feast all weekend long. If you choose to cook at home, more power to you, but start your holiday out on with a healthy step – compete in a 5K , 10K or Fun Walk at the annual Piggly Wiggly Turkey Trot. Registration ends at 7:30am. Call Joe Cain at the Hilton Head Island Rec Center for details 843.681.7273. Also, be sure to coordinate your plans around the Thanksgiving hayrides at the Sea Pines resort. From Tuesday Nov. 20th – Saturday November 24th times enjoy festive hayrides as you marvel at the fall colors and abundant plant and wildlife in the Sea Pines forest preserve. Cookies and refreshments will be provided before the tour and reservations are required. The cost is $16 for the grownups and $13 for the tykes. Also at Sea Pines, check out the fishing tournament on Friday. The cost is $12 to fish for bass, bluegill and catfish on Fish Island ($15 if you need a pole, too). Try to win a prize in one of the tournament categories or roast hot dogs and marshmallows around the bonfire. Call 843.842.1979 for information or to reserve a spot. When your belly is full, end your Thanksgiving in style – we’re hearing a buzz about town that a certain jolly fellow from the North Pole will make his first appearance of the season right here at Coligny Plaza. He’s sure to bring gifts and smiles. Stop by for a photo op. Happy Turkey Day!

The New Heron Point Golf Course

Friday, November 9th, 2007

Heron Point Golf Course, Hilton Head, South Carolina, GolfI had the great pleasure of playing in the Grand Opening tournament at Heron Point Golf Course (formerly Sea Marsh) in Sea Pines Plantation.

This course has recently been completely renovated by renowned golf course architect, Pete Dye, who also designed Harbour Town Golf Course. A gentleman I met last week had just played the course and described it to me as “spectacular”. I couldn’t agree more.

The course played a little long for me, but for longer hitters it shouldn’t be too bad. The fairways are visually stunning, with lots of bunkers and mounds making for some very interesting lies. The greens are relatively small, hard and fast but very true. Every hole offered something unique and special, whether it be a lagoon or strategically placed fairway bunkers or large traps guarding the green, something caught your eye.

The staff at Heron Point was extremely good and the whole event proved to be a delightful experience for me and I’m sure for all involved also. All in all, this would have to be considered a must play for anyone visiting Hilton Head.

Hilton Head Island has gone to the Dogs

Thursday, November 8th, 2007

HIlton Head Beach Muddy in waterOn Hilton Head Island, the off season is much more pet friendly than the “in” season when it comes to beach fun. Not only does Hilton Head Rentals & Golf have a number of pet friendly properties available year round, but it seems that the rest of the town follows suit when the height of the tourist season slows down. Between September 30th and April 1st (meaning, right now!), the town of Hilton Head will permit you and your dog to enjoy all twelve miles of island beaches together – no leash required. The leash laws return between April and Memorial Day. (more…)

Hilton Head Island Night Life

Monday, November 5th, 2007

Hilton Head Island Night LifeAutumn is one of the best times to visit Hilton Head Island. Nearly all of the seasonal establishments are still open for business, the bulk of the crowds are gone and the tell-tale summer traffic is to a minimum. A cool day may show up on occasion, with thermostats reading in the high 60’s. But, for the most part, warm temperatures linger on and off with the promise of days at the beach and nights at the pool. The occasional cool ocean breeze presents itself on some fall evenings and the lessening humidity eliminates those pesky bad hair nights when you want to paint the island red. When the urge hits you to shed the beach clothes and head somewhere posh, check out some of Hilton Head Rentals and Golf’s favorites. For the best flavored martinis on the island, check out the ever swanky Metropolitan Lounge in Park Plaza.  For ambiance that won’t quit, head to Spice in the Village at Wexford – its Europe meets LA at the beach. Thursday is ladies night and you can snag one of the best concoctions on the island for a steal. (more…)

Hilton Head Island Concours d’ EleganceOf the many festivals and special events that Hilton Head Island has to offer, few promise to be as nationally acclaimed as the upcoming 6th Annual Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival. The event takes place at The Coastal Discovery Museum at Honey Horn and the opening festivities are set for Saturday November 3rd at 9:00am. French for ‘Parade of excellence”, the Concours d’Elegance was born in Paris in the early 1900’s. First introduced to the American public in 1950 in Pebble Beach, the Concours name has grown to be synonymous with sophistication and class. Although dozens of shows have adopted the Concours name, only a select few are recognized or taken seriously in the industry. Over the past five years, The Hilton Head Island Concours d’Elegance & Motoring Festival and has become one of those select few and has made a name for itself among the motoring elite. (more…)
